LA Economic Development directly impacts employment. And employment is directly impacted by housing near jobs.
Given Building a Better Westchester-Playa sees the jobs-housing connection as a strategic issue for our community, three members of our organization participated in a community “listening” session on Thursday, 25 June 2026 @ CD11’s Community Room.
Here’s what we learned…
LA’s Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) is currently studying LA Economic Development futures. And that starts with gathering input from residents and business people at the “micro-community” level. Their goal? To create a SWOT analysis that accurately captures the forces, conditions and opportunities community members see for better job retention and job creation in each neighborhood throughout Los Angeles.
Once completed, a team of consultants and City EWDD staff will publish trend data from their “listening” process, leading ultimately to a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, which in turn helps shape LA’s future jobs-oriented funding and policy.
