On February 19, 2025, Planning the Westside team kicked off the CPU Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) process. This exercise is required to cross-check all Westside CPU plans for possible unintended negative impacts. That is, details in a draft CPU zoning plan that might create a problem with—say—traffic, air quality, safety and the like. If such a negative impact is found, Planning flags this and works on CPU modifications to mitigate (correct or lessen) the issue.
The DEIR process’s first step: the Westside CPU team solicited public opinions on the environmental impact topics the the study should include.
BaBWP submitted a public comment to specifically address the issue of multiple planning impacts beyond simple Westchester-Playa geography:
- LAX EIR
- State Law
- LA Code & Policy
Our main point: no one benefits from an DEIR process that focuses solely on impacts within the Westchester-Playa geography without folding in Environmental Impacts from LAX and new legal mandates. Without including this overlapping content the final DEIR for our community won’t reflect reality, rendering it an empty (and expensive) planning exercise.
